An Inkster, Michigan woman has been arraigned on child abuse and intent to murder raps after allegedly slitting her children’s throats with a knife in a gruesome New Year’s Day attack.
Police alleged that the suspect, Sara Vae Boles, 36, deliberately injured both her 1-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter, resulting in her charges of two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of first-degree child abuse, and one count of resisting arrest and obstructing police, Detroit News reported.
Cops performed a welfare check around 9 a.m. on Saturday on Boles and her children at a residence in the 29520 block of Grandview, some 20 miles west of Detroit.
When they arrived, the officers said their knocks on the door went unanswered, to which they opted to walk around the perimeter of the property. Seconds later, the cops allegedly heard a child crying inside the home, prompting them to force entry.
Police would then locate Boles and the injured kids in the bathroom, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. Law and Crime further noted that the 1-year-old boy was found to be unresponsive at the time of their arrival.
An officer would perform life-saving procedures until Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived. Paramedics proceeded to transport the victims to the nearest hospital for treatment and further assessment as police arrested Boles at the scene after a brief struggle with officers.
After arriving at the infirmary, the medical team had to fly the boy via helicopter to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit for much-needed treatment. While the young girl has been treated and released from the medical facility, the little boy remains in the hospital in critical condition.
Investigators also revealed that the youngsters sustained neck lacerations from the incident, noting they located a knife in the bathtub, a weapon believed to have been used in the alleged attack, according to the New York Post.
During her arraignment on Tuesday, Boles was slapped with a $100,000 cash bond in the 22nd District Court before Judge Sabrina Johnson. She is due to re-appear in court on Jan.12, with an attorney expected to represent her at the next hearing.
The Inkster Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing their investigations.
