Last week, a Florida teenager was taken to custody over an alleged "kill list." Her mother was also arrested on different charges.
The West Gate K-8 student in Port St. Lucie was arrested after authorities found a "kill list" on the 14-year-old's phone, the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office on Thursday.
Fox News did not name the student as she's a minor, but shared that Chief Deputy Brian Hester said that after an anonymous tip, "school faculty notified deputies of a list of eight juveniles’ names on the student's phone that was labeled as a ‘kill list.'"
Hester added that the parents of the juveniles had been contacted. He said that his team is committed to providing a safe learning environment for children and "continue to work diligently with St. Lucie Public Schools to do so."
According to a police report, as cops made entry into the teenager's bedroom, they could "smell the odor of animal feces and urine." Once they got in the bedroom, they "observed roaches all over the floor, walls, in the animal cages, and on the animal food." They also spotted a small dead lizard in a tank that had been there for a while, according to the girl whose bed was also "covered in what appeared to be dried up animal feces on her mattress.” According to CBS12 News, the report did not mention what kind of animals had been in the house.
Cops also got into the bedroom of the girl's mother Brooke Hinkle. According to the report, as cops made their way into her bedroom, they observed the "ceiling dirty around the ceiling fan, but the rest of the room was somewhat clean." The bathroom located in Hinkle's bedroom had a "pipe that is used to smoke crack cocaine." Police also recovered "a number of pipes that are common with smoking marijuana" from the suspect's bedroom.
The mother was arrested and booked into the St. Lucie County Jail on a $6,250 bond. She was charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia, as well as child neglect. As for the teen, she was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice for processing, reported Action News 5.
