Today, New York City FC was unveiled as Major League Soccer's 20th expansion team. New York City FC will bring even more soccer to the Big Apple with their inaugural season in 2015. However the home of NYCFC is still undecided and the football club will begin their inaugural season in a temporary home in NY.

"We are proud to welcome to Major League Soccer two of the most prestigious organizations in sports worldwide," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "This is a transformational development that will elevate the league to new heights in this country. The New York area is home to more than 19 million people, and hope to see an intense rivalry between New York City Football Club and the New York Red Bulls to captivate this great city. "

One surprise of the announcement from MLS was that the ownership of NYCFC is not a private venture by Sheikh Mansour. Instead, NYCFC will be a spilt ownership between the New York Yankees and Manchester City itself.

"We are excited to contribute to the energy and growth of football in the city of New York. On the Yankees, we have found the best partner for the development of a sports organization at the highest level and a winning team that will carry the name of New York City Football Club with pride," Ferran Soriano, executive director of Manchester City Football Club who will be in charge of assigning leadership positions for NYCFC, said today.

Manchester City will serve as the majority owner of NYCFC, with the Yankees serving as investors. Although the Yankees will still be an active member within the ownership group. The Yankees and Manchester City FC have an existing business relationship through Legends Group, an organization of international entertainment, hospitality and events.
