There was no pep in Bayern Munich’s coach Pep Guardiola’s step on Wednesday night. Not only did his team lose 2-1 to the two goal underdog MLS All-Stars, but one of his star players, Bastian Schweinsteiger was injured on a rough tackle by MLS’s Will Johnson late in the game.
Reportedly, Guardiola was so incensed by the rough tackling that he refused to shake the hand of MLS All-Star head coach Caleb Porter. To make matters worse, Guardiola encouraged his entire coaching staff and players not to shake the hands of Porter and the MLS stars.
Many on Twitter called the move “classless” and cried poor sportsmanship at Guardiola.
MLS All-Stars coach Caleb Porter said after the game that Pep was an idol of his and that he believes Guardiola was upset that a couple tackles went wrong. He reiterated that there was no ill intent on his part or on the part of any of his players. Guardiola on the other hand claimed he never saw Porter try and shake his hand and bypassed any and all questions about the Portland Timbers manager. Instead he told the media he hoped Bayern Munich would be invited back the following year. More than likely so he and his players can get a little revenge.
