A 59-year-old woman who was reported missing was found dead in a ravine on Sept. 11. This happened just days after she reportedly left home in a rented SUV, 11 Alive reported.
The deceased was identified as Deborrah Collier who reportedly worked for years as a front office manager for Carriage House Realty in Athens. She got married in 2013.
According to her daughter, identified as Amanda Bearden, Collier ended up renting the SUV since her car was in the shop. Her mom had left home with only her driver’s license and debit card at the time.
In a report from People.com, the father and the daughter told authorities that Deborrah’s actions were a bit unusual and added that it is something she has not done in the past.
However, it was a chilling last message as well as wired money that added a different twist to the story. Bearden was allegedly wired an amount totaling $2,385 through Venmo together with a message that read: “They are not going to let me go, love you.”
Collier was tracked down using the rented vehicle’s SiriusXM satellite radio. It was located on US 441 near Victory Home Lane which was about 60 miles from Collier’s home. A Habersham County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team was able to locate the woman’s body.
For now, investigators are treating the death of Collier as a homicide. But based on the missing person’s report, it is suggested that the case may be a result of a kidnapping.
The family and friends known to Collier have so far declined to comment on the matter. It has yet to be announced whether there are suspects or persons of interest that could have been behind the death of the 59-year-old mother.
