Puerto Rican Stephanie del Valle, with only 19 years old, was crowned Miss World 2016 after Wilnelia Merced won the pageant in 1975 for the first time for the Caribbean island.
Miss World 2016 was celebrated at the MGM National Harbor in Washington D. C. with 177 candidates from all over the world. The winner is currently studying Communication at Pace University in New York.
Before the pageant, Del Valle had been mentioned by several internet portals as a favorite to take the crown.
Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramírez from Dominican Republic, became the first runner up and Natasha Mannuela Halim from Indonesia was the second. Miss Kenia, Evelyn Njambi Thungu, and Philippines, Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray, were also semifinalists. The top 11 was conformed by Belgium, Brazil, China, Korea, Mongolia and United States, while the top 20 included Australia, Cook Islands, France, Ghana, Hungary, India, Japan, Slovakia and Thailand.
A curious fact was the jury of the final night was composed of experts from the world of entertainment and several past queens, including the Puerto Rican Wilnelia Merced, Miss World 1975. Do you think it was a coincidence?
Coincidence or not; There’s no doubt Miss Puerto Rico is a gorgeous woman. We wish her the best of luck during her year.
