The Philippines has had a rough year to say the least. With the country still reeling from the devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan, you'd think things couldn't get much worse. However, a rumor has been circulating that the country has been disqualified from all future international beauty pageants because of an enormous advantage. Indeed, the Philippines has had a pretty phenomenal year: the country won Miss World, Miss Supranational and was third Runner Up in Miss Universe. But does this really deserve a disqualification?
The answer is no. The rumor is just that -- a rumor. The Philippines being disqualified from international beauty competitions was a story concocted by The Adobo Chronicles: supposedly the ABPFH enforced the ban "to give other countries the chance to win international beauty competitions." In fact Adobo Chronicles is a false news website which publishes satirical articles in the style of The Onion. The website states "Everything you read on this site is based on fact, except for the lies."
This hasn't stopped the rumor spreading like wildfire. Twitter was set ablaze with comments: "Philippines are disqualified from entering any beauty pageants for 2 years..please why are these people hating for...dpmo" tweeted one fan. Another tweeted "As a filipina, i don't know whether to feel offended or flattered." However, Latin Times can confirm that this rumor is false: the Philippines will continue their amazing beauty pageant form.
