Nicole Kelly won the 2013 Miss Iowa pageant and is now on her way to compete for the Miss America crown. What is getting everybody's tongues wagging aside from the fact that the blonde bombshell is beautiful, is the fact she has only one arm.
Nicole Kelly was born without a left arm. The 23-year-old has learned to live with the stares and personal prying questions about what happened to her arm. On the Miss Iowa website the one arm wonder says she likes to have a little fun and asks people what they think happened to her arm.

"My favorite explanation to date has been that it was bitten off by a shark, a perfect explanation for someone from Iowa," she says on the Miss Iowa website.
"As I grew older I learned to offset the initial stares I received from people with an outgoing personality that would not give in to "No," Kelly said. "This meant that I tried everything from baseball to dance to diving, there was nothing I would not try. I found my passion within a world where I was giving people permission to stare...the stage."
In her Miss Iowa bio, Nicole Kelly says she hopes to work as stage manager on Broadway. She received a degree in directing and theater management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Kelly was an intern with the Massachusetts Theatre Festival. She got the internship with the help of the VSA program, the international Organization on Arts and Disability.
The VSA program is now part of Miss Iowa's platform. She hopes to encourage people with disabilities to never stop pushing themselves.
"A year ago, I certainly didn't see "pageant titleholder" in my future," Kelly said in her bio. "Perhaps I didn't originally envision this path but I now know that being Miss Iowa is the perfect fit for me...Giving a voice to my platform, Overcoming Disabilities, is a tremendous honor and I am thrilled to continue my adventure by speaking out and touching lives as Miss Iowa 2013."
