Puerto Rican model Génesis Dávila could only enjoy the Miss Florida USA crown for one week. She was stripped of the crown after the pageant’s organizers discovered Dávila had allegedly violated one of the rules of the competition. Grant Gravitt , executive producer of the show told Local 10 News that Dávila used professional stylists to help with her hair and makeup in her private room, which is a violation of pageant rules.
Dávila allegedly enlisted the help of a professional make-up artist, which goes against the principle of equality for all the contestants. "We have a zero-tolerance policy on rules," Gravitt said. "Whether it's something major or minor, it's all about keeping an equal and level playing field. Unfortunately, our title holder sought an unfair competitive advantage, and that's just not acceptable in our system."
Now, the model has announced that she began taking legal action against Miss Florida USA organizers after she was dethroned. In the lawsuit, she demands the organizers of the event to give her back the title, and she also asks for a $15 million compensation for “damages.” Dávila, along with her lawyer Richard Wolfe, revealed in a press conference that she’s innocente of the false allegations made against her by Gravitt.
She also said that she’s gone through a lot of hardships in her life, but never anything like this, and she’s confident that her lawyers and the United States judicial system will prove her innocence and save her reputation. Meanwhile, Gravitt insists that proof that Dávila broke the rules was taken from her own social media posts, but according to her lawyers, that photo Gravitt is referring to was taken several days before the actual pageant and it was her preparation for a photo shoot.
"We have filed for a multiple content lawsuit. We want that damages for defamation and emotional stress to be paid and that our client is reinstated to her position," Wolfe said. He added that Gravitt didn’t like the Puerto Rican model in the first place because he didn’t think she was an American citizen. “But for those who didn’t know, Puerto Rico is part of the United States,” he highlighted.
Meanwhile, first runner-up Linette de los Santos currently holds the crown.
