A Minnesota driver who posted his dangerously high speed to Snapchat moments before a deadly car crash has been sentenced to nearly a decade in prison.
According to Sherburne County Attorney's Office, Buckentine pleaded guilty to charges of criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular operation for his role in the fatal Aug. 2023 crash.
Just before the crash, Buckentine posted a photo of his car's odometer at 150 mph to Snapchat with "a new record" written over the image.
A reconstruction of the crash estimated that Buckentine's vehicle was traveling at 133 mph when it rear-ended the other car, leaving one person dead and two injured.
"This level of recklessness on our roads led to senseless injuries and loss of life," Sherburne County Attorney Kathleen Heaney told WCCO. "The only measure of justice that the system can give to the families and friends impacted is that of holding the defendant accountable for his deeds."
Buckentine is serving a prison sentence of nine years and eight months.
