Mojang has announced that the popular title "Minecraft" has finally gotten a release date for Sony's PlayStation 3. The company announced that "Minecraft" for the PS3 would arrive for the console Dec. 17 in North America, then one day later, Dec. 18, in Europe. The PS3 version of the game comes with everything from other console versions, with downloadable skins and texture packs expected to follow shortly. No Sony specific content packs have been announced but Mojang has said they may see some in the future.
The widely successful open-world builder, which has currently sold over 33 million copies, is expected to arrive on both the next-generation PlayStation 4 console and Sony's handheld PS Vita console in the future. During Gamescom Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson took to Twitter to say that the title would coming to Sony's console tweeting, "PS4, PS3 and Vita." With the reveal of the PS3 release date, it should be soon that the PS4 and PS Vita release date will arrive shortly, though no news has been given for those platforms as of now.
"Minecraft" has received five awards from the 2011 Game Developers Conference as well as the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, from the Independent Games Festival in 2011. In 2012, "Minecraft," was awarded a Golden joystick Award in the category Best Downloadable Game. "Minecraft" is available on multiple platforms including: Java platform, Java applet, Android, iOS, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Raspberry Pi and now PlayStation 3 and in the future will be available on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
