Miley literally can't stop. After initially watching her VMA performance last month, I was genuinely horrified. All I wanted to do was look away, but at the same time I couldn't, I was transfixed; and so was the rest of the world. Miley Cyrus has currently taking center stage on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. The 20-year-old pop sensation has made headlines for years, although, more recently, critics have been harsher and now the former "Hannah Montana" star is finally hitting back.

"I think, it's an important time not to Google myself," states Miley in her recent interview with Rolling Stone. Cyrus is not unaware of the increased criticism she has endured, but instead has simply learned to deal with it. She states that she knows that her VMA performance with "Blurred Lines" singer Robin Thicke got a bit "handsy" but she also makes a good point regarding the risqué show: "No one is talking about the man behind the ass. It was a lot of 'Miley twerks on Robin Thicke,' but never, 'Robin Thicke grinds up on Miley.' They're only talking about the one that bent over. So obviously there's a double standard."

Miley seems to be incredibly self-aware in the interview, she also admitted that due to the performance and her recent music video for "We Can't Stop," people expect this bad girl persona. "Now people expect me to come out and twerk with my tongue out all the time. I'll probably never do that shit again." For these expectations alone is probably why Cyrus' latest single "Wrecking Ball" was such a pleasant surprise. And even Cyrus recognizes this, "Wrecking Ball" "the last thing they expect from her: real art. She wants very much to be taken seriously as an artist, not just in the musical sense, but overall."

The song was a professional success for Miley, which raced to the top spot on the Billboard Charts, and has also been nominated for Best Song at the 2013 World Music Awards. In addition to the single being her first ever Number #1, the song was an emotional journey. After its release, Miley and longtime partner Liam Hemsworth officially announced their spilt after months of intense speculation. Despite the media's intense scrutiny, and her personal heartbreak, it seems that Miley still possesses a tight grasp on who she is and what she is doing both professionally and personally.

She is still close to her parents, saying she sees them about once a week: "My dad's always home," she says. "He's like, 'There's nothing for me to do out here.' So he chills at the house all day, and I go see him." As for her dedicated group of friends, she seems rather content with them as well. While attending an after party, Miley gets excited and reveals to Rolling Stone that they are at the house that inspired the "We Can't Stop" music video. "This is actually the house!" she says. "The 'This is our house, this is our roof' house - this is the place! And these are the homies!" She can't stop smiling. "We're really living that life!"
