Miguel 'El Piojo' Herrera has been unoffically confirmed as coach for El Tri for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Although no formal announcement has been made, ESPN reports that Herrera has been named as 'Director Tecnico' of the Mexican team for 2014. Herrera was supposedly only acting as interim coach following Victor Manuel Vucetich's dismissal, but after guiding El Tri to two impressive victories and a World Cup berth, the Americas coach has been secured as head coach.

Miguel Herrera was El Tri's fourth coach in six weeks. However, 'El Piojo' was able to do what his three predecessors had been incapable of achieving: bringing El Tri together. Mexico suffered poor form during the CONCAF season, and only scraped into the New Zealand qualifier thanks to the US' last minute goals against Panama. Herrera opted for a team made up largely of domestic players, something that will no doubt be key to the World Cup. However, 'El Piojo' has conceded European players will also feature.

Miguel Herrea saved not only the hopes of an entire nation of soccer fans, but also the pocket books of Mexican and US businesses: El Tri's failur to qualify for Brazil could have cost up to $650 million in TV sponsorship and advertising.
