In recent years, Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold subscription has been the preferred choice for many Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One owners.
However, Microsoft has announced a forthcoming change where Xbox Live Gold will be discontinued in favor of a new offering called 'Game Pass Core'.
In a recent blog post, the tech giant revealed that starting from Sep. 14, Xbox Live Gold will be rebranded as Game Pass Core.
This updated subscription will include a curated collection of 25 games that will be refreshed two to three times per year.
This represents a positive step forward compared to the existing plan, which offers two games per month.
Microsoft has assured existing Xbox Live Gold members that their subscription will be seamlessly transitioned to Game Pass Core.
Additionally, the company has stated that it will bid farewell to 'Games with Gold' on Sep. 1.
Under the new subscription model, only Xbox 360 games downloaded through the service will remain free, Indian Express reported.
However, an active Game Pass Core or Ultimate subscription will be required to continue playing Xbox One games that were previously downloaded through Xbox Live Gold.
Regardless of subscription status, downloaded Xbox 360 titles will still be available to play.
The list of games which will be available at launch includes Among Us, Descenders, Dishonored 2, Doom Eternal, Fable Anniversary, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, Grounded, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Wars 2, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Human Fall Flat, Inside, Ori and The Will of the Wisps, Psychonauts 2, State of Decay 2, and The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited.
