The U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Anthony Wayne has expressed his administration's hope that efforts in Michoacn would be met with "great success." Wayne met with members of the Mexican Foreign Ministry and the Senate to go over issues like the Merida Initiative, the Summit of North American Leaderis and the North American Free Trade Agreement. Following the meeting, the ambassador wished the Mexican government well in their efforts in the troubled state.

Ambassador Payne spoke briefly with the media after the meetings saying "we wish Mexico the greatest success in this matter, which is truly important for Mexico and there is a great effort being made." Meanwhile, the president of the Commission For Foreign Relations, Gabriela Cuevas Barrón, explained some of the themes of the bilateral agenda covered during the meeting. "We tried to tackle issues like the Merida Initiative and the trade betweeen our two countries."

Barrón also revealed that they spoke about "issues that are fundamental to our country, such as immigration." She also indicated that the Mexican legislators initiated a discussion over children who travel to the United States alone. She revealed that they also discussed the issue of Mexican citizens on death row, something which has become increasingly important following the execution of Edgar Tamayo Arias. Barrón also indicated that both Barack Obama and President Peña Nieto would attend the North American Summit in Toluca.
