Michelle Renaud caused waves when over the weekend she had seemingly declared that she was gay and came out of the closet. The "Pasión y Poder" actress shared a post on Instagram where she is seen with the rainbow flag. She captioned the photo with the following statement: "I AM GAY. Like you, like everyone, we are all the same. It is the time that we all open our minds and realize that WE ONLY LIVE ONCE and we need to enjoy and allow everyone to enjoy, with out caring for sex, tastes, colors, race, or anything else. WE ARE ALL ONE and we came here to be HAPPY. Let's give love and only only to others." Renaud used the hashtags "I'm gay," "Let's live and let live," "love," "pride," "be you" and "be how you want to be."
Fans of the Mexican actress shared and liked the message and interpreted as her coming out of the closet. The moment was shared during the LGBT Pride event that took place over the weekend in Mexico City. As the post went viral Renaud had to make another statement to clarify her original post. This time, she shared a video with the following caption: "Clarifying 100% support for the gay community and anybody that dares to be different and be themselves. Here is my clarification for those that didn't understand."
In the video Renaud said, "When I wrote 'I am gay, like you, like everyone,' what I wanted you to understand is that we are all the same. Labels hurt. A person is not more or less because they are gay. We are all people and what defines us are our thoughts, feelings, our way of acting towards others."
Renaud also commented on all the negative criticism she received on her original post. "It's really saddening to know that people think it's ok to judge and hurt others," she said. "I invite you all to open your heart and accept others as they are. Allow people to be free to choose how they want to live. And you, that are gay, I admire you."
