Grenoble hospital and Michael Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm has confirmed that the Seven-time Formula 1 world champion has finally emerged from a six-month coma and has been discharged from the hospital. Michael Schumacher suffered serious head injuries after a devastating skiing accident in the French Alps on Dec. 29.

“Michael has left the CHU Grenoble to continue his long phase of rehabilitation. He is not in a coma anymore,” Sabine Kehm announced. “His family would like to explicitly thank all his treating doctors, nurses and therapists in Grenoble as well as the first aiders at the place of the accident, who did an excellent job in those first months.

“The family also wishes to thank all the people who have sent Michael all the many good wishes to Michael. We are sure it helped him," Kehm continued. "For the future we ask for understanding that his further rehabilitation will take place away from the public eye.”

Following Michael Schumacher's discharge from Grenoble Hospital will be an extended rehabilitation process. Schumacher will reportedly undergo rehab at the University Hospital of Lausanne, in western Switzerland.

"The family are in a separate part of the hopsital where their privacy can be best protected and where Schumacher can obtain the highjest level of care," said University Hospital of Lausanne spokesman Darcy Christen.
