When the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles meet this weekend on the gridiron it will mark the first time in nearly a decade that both teams will play while ranked in the Top 10 of the Associated Press College Football Poll. The Hurricanes will make the trip to Tallahassee with an unblemished record of 7-0 and as they prepare battle undefeated and No. 3 Florida State, Miami knows that this game will surely have BCS implications, especially if the winner of this game finishes the season with an unbeaten record. Slowing down FSU's freshman quarterback Jameis Winston will be a tough task for the Hurricanes but head coach Al Golden also notes that investing in the game emotionally will be crucial to his team's success as well.
"He's beyond his years," Golden said of Winston, who has thrown 23 touchdown passes this season. "He's talented. He's mature with the football. Strong arm, can move his feet, can create from a bad situation and I just think he's excellent. Regardless of his age or year in school, he's excellent. He's playing really well and they're executing at a high level. I don't think there's any question we have to invest in this game emotionally. I just think as coaches we don't have to do as much this week, because it kind of sets itself up. The rivalry, it stands by itself, to be honest with you."
FSU coach Jimbo Fisher - who has watched his team earn major victories over Clemson, Maryland and five other squads - is also aware that this showdown could be one of the best games all season while saying that this game feels just like the major match-ups the two teams have shared over the years.
"They're a heck of a football team," Fisher said. "We'll have to be ready to play. Like the old days."
