On Friday, Nov. 1st, the two-time defending NBA champion Miami Heat will travel to Brooklyn to take on the Nets at the Barclays in regular season action. The Nets will try to overcome an opponent which has consistently battered them - Lebron and his Heat have beaten Brooklyn in each of their last 13 encounters, knocking them around by an average of 21 points in their last three meetings in the 2012-2013 regular season. Nets point guard Deron Williams says he thinks his team is better prepared this year. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find a streaming link of the action when it goes live at 8pm EST.

"I don't know if we felt we were a better team than the Heat last year," Williams told first-year Brooklyn coach Jason Kidd during a conversation televised on ESPN's "SportsCenter". "And so I think in order for us to be able to beat them this year, we have to feel like we are a better team and we can beat them. And I think we do." The Nets see this year as their year after they bagged a gang of aging but still potent veterans from Boston. One of them, Kevin Garnett, told Sports Illustrated after the team's 98-94 loss against Cleveland on Wednesday that "everyone has to be patient" in waiting for the team to gel, adding, "It's not just because you assemble guys and things are going to just voila. We're not a perfect team by far, but we are a hard-working team. We're a team with no excuses."

His teammates agree that the Friday night matchup against the defending champs will be important for the team's development during the 2013-2014 season. "I think it will definitely be a statement game," center Brook Lopez told SI. "It's going to be a great benchmark for us. We absolutely believe we're capable of competing with them and that's something we're going to want to be doing down the line, obviously, in the playoffs. So we're definitely anticipating a high-energy, important game."

The Heat, for their part, opened up their season by downing the Chicago Bulls 107-96 at home in Miami on Tuesday, spoiling the long-awaited return of Bulls point guard Derrick Rose. One night later, however, they dropped a game to Philadelphia 114-110, as the Sixers were led by rookie Michael Carter-Williams, who dumped in 22 points, 12 assists and nine steals. The Heat did manage to pull from way behind by scoring 45 points in the third quarter. "We're a comfortable team, we always feel like we can win a game," Lebron James told SI about the scoring spree.
