Match Preview

El Tri dropped their tournament opener to Panama but after suffering the early 2-1 defeat, the Mexican nationals were able to earn 6 points in the final 2 opening round matches.

Landing a spot in the quarterfinals thanks to wins over Canada and Martinique, El Tri continues to receive strong offensive play from Marco Fabian. The Guadalajara midfielder is second in tournament scoring with 3 goals and along with support from Raul Jimenez, Miguel Angel Ponce and Luis Montes, El Tri's offense holds the capability to score in large volume when at the top of their game.

Jonathan Orozco continues to play well between the pipes, giving Mexico stability on the defensive side of the ball as he's surrendered only 2 goals in the tournament. The Mexican defense has done a nice job of making their keepers life easier as well but when the shots do come his way, more times than not, El Tri's netminder finds a way to keep the opponent off the board.

While Mexico is happy to continue their quest for the team's seventh Gold Cup title, Trinidad and Tobago hopes they're able to take down one of the most successful teams in tournament history.

The Soca Warriors are led by the ever-dangerous Kenwyne Jones, who leads the club with 2 goals in 3 matches. Jones has the ability to create his own spacing and he can score at a moments notice, solidifying him as a must watch player and one of the most dangerous players in the field. Help from Keon Daniel will also be key against an extremely talented El Tri defensive unit.

The key to Trinidad taking down El Tri will not only focus on Jones' ability, but the play of Jan Michael Williams in the net as well. When T&T provides their talented goalie with defensive pressure and doesn't allow a plethora of shot attempts to skirt his way, The Soca Warriors are capable of playing with anyone.
