Mexico defeated Croatia and got its classification into the round of 16 at the World Cup 2014. El Tri beat Croatia 3-1 in an intense duel where Rafael Marquez, Andres Guardado and Javier Hernandez scored goals - the victory puts Mexico in second place Group A, led by Brazil. Few people were more excited about the win than coach Miguel 'El Piojo' Herrera, who was photographed in all his excitment. Mexican social media has of course had a field day with #ElPiojo
Despite a shaky first half, the Mexican squad found how to stand firm at Pernambuco stadium for the win that gave them a pass for the sixth consecutive time to the second round of the World Cup, where this time they will face Netherlands who topped Group B. From the start of the match, both teams showed themselves as seasoned teams, trying to make dangerous moves, while the Mexican fans began throwing the cry of "Puuuuuto!" each time the ball was clear or when a corner kick was given.
The Croats showed reckless courage, but Mexico was not intimidated and began searching for the goal: Rafael Márquez managed to open the scoring after 72 minutes when he headed a corner. Already with confidence high, Andres Guardado scored at the 75th minute to make the score 2-0 thanks to Oribe Peralta, while Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez, who came off the bench for Giovani Dos Santos, scored the third at the 82nd minute.
