Five people are reportedly dead after a cargo train known as "La Bestia" derailed in southern Mexico. The freight train is used by migrants traveling from Central America toward the U.S. border in hopes of a better lifestyle in the States. Luis Felipe Puente, coordinator of National Emergency Services stated on Twitter that 35 people were injured 16 of them in serious condition. As of this writing, only five have been reportead dead, but the toll could rise.

"This train carries a lot of migrants from Central America. (Those five) were the visible dead. It could be that as the structure of the train is removed ... more bodies could appear," Cesar Burelo, director of emergency services in Tabasco told local media. He also added that "sixteen of the injured had been transported to local hospitals" and it would be difficult to determine the actual number of people involved in the accident. "It's very likely that (surviving travelers) have left the scene."

Emergency services have had a difficult time to get to the scene as the terrain is not the most adequate and only helicopters or boats have been able to get there. This is not the first incident to surge from this dangerous way of traveling as the Zeta drug cartel operates along this route and have been known to kidnap migrants to aide in the trafficking of drugs.
