The Mexican Attorney General's office has revealed that two key members of the Sinaloa Cartel, Mario Hidalgo Argüello and Mario López Osorio, have been arrested in Culiacan. The operation also uncovered 3 tons of drugs including cocaine, methamphetamines and marijuana hidden inside bananas and cucumbers. In a press conference on Tuesday, Tomas Zeron, head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, said that the capture took place in the Libertad neighborhood in the Sinaloan capital.
"We found weapons whihc are used exclusively by the Mexican military, vehicles and drugs in various packaging, disguised as containers for fruits and vegetables," he explained. "We found 165 envelopes wrapped inside bananas, 115 with marijuana wrapped inside cucumbers, and five weapons used exclusively by the Mexican Armed Forces, a bazooca with two missiles, four grenades and over a thousand cartridges for use in weapons of different calibres, three luxury vehicles and three more stolen cars."
Zeron confirmed that the homes in which the weapons and drugs were found also had tunnels under the baths in the houses which connected to the drainage system of the city, which could be used as a means of escape and to transport the drugs. The Sinaloa Cartel is one of the most powerful drug cartels in Mexico, controlling much of the drug trade from Colombia, through Mexico and into the US. It is headed by infamous drug kingpin Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman.
