After a crushing loss to Brazil, being shut out 2-0 in a 2013 Confederations Cup match, the Mexican soccer squad apparently needed a way to "drown their sorrows." Witnesses said Thursday that 13 players from the squad were caught at a gentleman's club featuring "the hottest girls" in Brazil, according to Proceso. It was said that the group appeared at the club at least three times since Saturday.
Those in attendance included coaching staff and the following six players: Giovani Dos Santos, Andrés Guardado, Javier Aquino, Javier "Chicharito" Hernández, Francisco Javier "Maza" Rodríguez and Aldo De Nigris. Ancelmo Gois, a highly-read columnist in Rio de Janeiro, originally posted the story that Mexico's coach Jose de la Torre originally denied.
"After the match against Italy we had dinner. The other day we went out early. We don't have anything to report about anyone going out," he said.
Witnesses told Mexican newspaper Reforma that workers at the club invited them in upon finding out they were Mexican. They said the workers told them that most of la seleccion was upstairs.
"We were walking down the street and [the employees] said 'Come in, come in, come in' and we said 'no thank you.' And they said 'Ahhh, they are Mexicans. The entire Mexican soccer team is upstairs. Come in, come in so you can go see them,' so we went in and saw them there," the tourist, who requested to remain anonymous, told reporters.
Maza and "a long-haired player" were allegedly seen going upstairs with women, while Dos Santos is said to have been slapping women on their behinds. This isn't the first time the Mexican soccer team has been seen partying the night away. On June 8, 2008, El Tri organized a party at the Westin Michigan, where goaltender Oswaldo Sanchez was arrested. On Sept. 7, 2010, the team was playing a friendly match with Colombia in Monterrey, Mexico. The team threw a party following the game, with the following players being identified as guests: Pablo Barrera, Giovani dos Santos, Andrés Guardado, Enrique Esqueda, Efraín Juárez, Javier Hernández, Rafael Márquez, Héctor Moreno, Carlos Salcido, Guillermo Ochoa, Francisco Rodríguez, Gerardo Torrado and Carlos Vela.
More recently, eight players were seen with escorts on June 25, 2011 while playing a friendly match with Ecuador prior to the Americas Cup. The players included: David Cabrera, Néstor Calderón, Javier Cortés, Jonathan dos Santos, Israel Jiménez, Jorge Hernández, Marco Fabián and Néstor Vidrio.
