Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum has a celebrity fan and is very flattered. She even lightly blushed when a journalist asked her about American actress Fran Drescher's public request to meet her in person.

During a morning press conference earlier in the week, Sheinbaum was asked by a reporter about receiving praise from public figures like Drescher.

The Mexican president responded, "First, I want to thank her for wanting to meet me, and second, not to let it get to my head because that doesn't help anything."

She continued, "What's truly important is the people, there's a lot of people behind this. That's where the strength comes from. It's not about the president. It's about this transformation movement, which has been important not only in our country but is now being recognized around the world. It's the people of Mexico who give it strength, and that's something to be proud of."

The question was raised in the wake of the American actress' visit to Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, the Mexican Ambassador to the United States, a day earlier.

The ambassador posted a photo with her on social media and relayed that Drescher was an admirer of Sheinbaum's and wanted to meet her to discuss working together on certain political issues.

Moctezuma wrote, "I am impressed with the intelligence and humanity of Fran Drescher, whom we deeply welcomed at the [embassy]. With great passion, she shared her admiration for Mexican culture and for the country itself... She expressed to me that she shares many views with our first female president [Sheinbaum], whom she wishes to meet personally to express her admiration and interest in working together on women's rights and environmental issues.

Her public admiration for President Sheinbaum is not Drescher's first foray into the political sphere.

She is currently the president of SAG-AFTRA, the world's largest labor union representing entertainers, and led the union during the five-month actor's strike that began in July of 2023.

In 2008, she was appointed Public Diplomacy Envoy for Women's Health Issues by George W. Bush and has been vocal in her endorsement of Democratic candidates in U.S. elections.
