A man from Mexico attempted to sneak into the Unites States by hiding in a red chili truck with nothing but a bottle of tequila for the trip. Authorities stopped to search the truck as it was coming through New Mexico. The unidentified 35-year-old-man was described as "highly intoxicated" when authorities discovered him. The man explained that he was trying to get to Chicago and was hoping the chili truck would take him there. The Guardian reports that the man was discovered on Thursday, September 5 sleeping in the shipment of chili peppers.
The U.S. border patrol officers removed the man from the truck and detained the shipment. After reviewing the situation and the drunken chili stowaway the man was sent back to Mexico. Authorities released the shipment of chili peppers and notified the pepper importer of the incident involving the intoxicated man. The man's name and hometown have not been released. The man was less than 300-feet into New Mexico before the border patrol stopped the truck. Images of the arrest shows border authorities inside a large shipping container stuffed with chili peppers. The man is on his knees as officers place handcuffs on him.
