From Casanova to “Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One” looks like Diego Luna will be having a busy few months since he’s been confirmed to play a part in the first of the upcoming “Star Wars Anthology” series of spin-off films. Luna is set to join confirmed cast members Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Sam Claflin and Ben Mendelsohn, and the rest of the actors have yet to be announced. Director Gareth Edwards explained the movie will follow a rogue band of rebel fighters who are united to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy.
“It’s the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good,” Edwards said at the Star Wars celebration. The movie is set to take place between “Episode III” and “IV” but closer in time to “A New Hope.” Oscar winner visual effects supervisor John Knoll will be executive producing along with Jason McGatlin and Simon Emanuel. Tony To and Kathleen Kennedy will be the producers and Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat will be scoring the film.
Although Luna’s role hasn’t been confirmed yet, he is said to be one of the leads alongside Jones, Ahmed and Mendelsohn, as part of larger ensemble which Variety magazine says might end up being similar to “The Dirty Dozen” and “Saving Private Ryan.” Luna recently starred with Mel Gibson in “Blood Father” and went behind the camera to write, produce and direct his upcoming film “Mr. Pig.” Disney and Lucas Films have yet to comment on the casting news.
