A New Jersey man was discovered to have been involved in a sexual assault on his client in 2016 after a recent police report of the same misconduct from another client earlier this year.
According to NBC New York, the 29-year-old man was charged with sexual misconduct with one of his clients while working as a massage therapist.
Jhon Cabrera from Paterson, had allegedly performed a sexual act on a female client in the middle of their spa session in Hackensack. On April 22, Hackensack Police Department responded to the client’s report of alleged sexual misconduct from Cabrera and he was charged with criminal sexual contact after the investigation.
Following the former massage therapist’s arrest, Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office detectives also found out that Cabrera was also accused of sexual assault back in 2016 while working as a masseur at a spa in Emerson.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said that during that time, Cabrera had performed sexual penetration on a client without their permission during a massage.
On Tuesday, the former massage therapist was arrested and charged with a single count of sexual assault from his misconduct of five years ago. He was also moved to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack while waiting for his first court trial.
Further details about the people whom Cabrera had assaulted such as their identities and background were not discussed in the reports. The exact dates of both the assaults were also not yet revealed, NJ.com reported.
But the recent accusation of sexual misconduct against Cabrera in Hackensack that was reported on April 22 gave rise to the investigation of the 2016 assault in Emerson.
On Monday, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy had signed into law seven bills that were aimed to strengthen legal protections for the victims of sexual assault. The new legal measures include a three-year pilot program in the office of the attorney general. At the same time, law enforcement officers are now also required to provide victims of sexual assault with an initial incident report and the chance to review the report and offer corrections.
