Four men have been indicted for the gruesome murder of a mother of a young boy on Wednesday after reportedly beating the New York City woman to death before forcing her body into the trunk of a car.
Nazareth Claure, 31, was believed to be attacked on April 11, when four men in their twenties mobbed and beat her to death with a machete and a baseball bat. Her body was seized by the assailants from the scene of the crime.
However, three days after Claure's horrific death, four men were spotted carting a large object in the middle of the night near a building in Foam Place, Far Rockaway. Officers observed as the group of men proceeded to force the identified object into the trunk of their car before speeding away.
Law enforcement was able to stop the vehicle near the Nassau Expressway and Bayview Avenue. Claure's body was found wrapped in a blanket in the trunk of the car. She was already visibly dead.
The four suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Allan Lopez, 21-year-old Jose Sarmiento, 20-year-old Rigel Yohairo, and 28-year-old Anander Henriquez, all from Far Rockaway. They have been named in a seven-count indictment charging them all with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon at the Queens Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Police have yet to establish a motive for the gruesome killing. However, according to NBC New York, Claure was reportedly the landlord of the building the four men resided in, her neighbors confirmed. Her connection and relationship with the group of men remains unclear.
Claure's sudden passing leaves behind an orphaned young boy.
“This was a cruel, ruthless killing. As alleged, the defendants attacked the victim and beat her to death with a machete and a bat," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said in a statement.
Lopez, Sarmiento, and Yohairo have also been charged with concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence. Meanwhile, Henriquez faces an additional aggravated criminal contempt charge.
Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Alois ordered the offenders to return to court on July 27, 2021. If convicted the four men face from 25 years to life in prison, a press release from Queens District Attorney stated.
“This brutal act of violence against an innocent woman is yet another reminder of the depraved indifference to human life that continues the be the calling card of various street gangs in NY," Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations New York Peter Fitzhugh said.
"HSI and our law enforcement partners refuse to let these mobs’ ruthlessness intimidate our communities and we remain steadfast in our mission to eliminate the threat they pose to public safety."
