It’s amazing to think that one soccer player, in one game, on one day can do enough to make millions over the course of a lifetime, but that is precisely what Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa did in his amazing performance against Brazil in the second game of group play on June 17th.
Memo earned the nickname, “The Fortress of Fortaleza” after the match and now that the World Cup is over, the fortresses’ services will surely be in high demand. Ochoa’s contract expired at the end of June and he is now free to sign with any club of his choosing.
Early talks with Memo’s agent have hinted that the Mexican goalkeeper would like to stay in France, but Memo’s masterpiece in Brazil has now gotten the attention of major clubs in England, Spain, Italy and Germany.
ESPN has reported that because Barcelona has signed Claudio Bravo, Bravo’s former club, Real Sociedad is highly interested in Memo’s services. The best situation for Memo might be with current La Liga Champion, Atletico Madrid, who might find themselves without a goalkeeper now that Thibaut Courtois’s transfer term is up.
Also, the famous U.K. publication The Mirror believes that Arsenal and Liverpool are both interested in Memo’s skills however, an article posted in The Bild quotes Memo as saying he wants to play for Bundesliga.
If Ochoa decides to stay in France, Monaco is interested in signing him now that Victor Valdes’ transfer term is up, as well as Marseille. Newspapers in Italy have Memo headed to AC Milan and Napoli as well.
