Melania Trump's wide-brimmed hat that completed her look for her husband's inauguration sparked an avalanche of jokes and memes online.

The First Lady's black and white hat was subjected to various jokes from social media users as many compared her to characters from cartoons, children's stories and other media.

"Melania's hat is giving Hamburglar," one user tweeted. "Melania Trump out here looking like a Spy vs. Spy cartoon," another user wrote.

Others joked about how the hat must have impacted her field of vision, leading many to assume that the hat was a sign that she did not want this attention.

The First Lady's hat also gave way to another slew of jokes after Donald Trump attempted to give her a kiss at the inauguration ceremony, only for the hat to prevent him from being able to do so.

"For those wondering why Melania chose to wear that goddamn hat, here's your answer," one user commented. "Melania wore that hat to protect herself from Trump kissing her — very effective!" another user joked.

Several users also contrasted Melania's purely black and white outfit with Second Lady Usha Vance, who wore a long, pink coat and matching gloves. The darker colors of Melania's outfit led several users to joke that she was attending the United States' funeral.
