“What is Melanie Trump like? What is she really like?” For the last three years, since Donald Trump became the President of the United States of America, people have been constantly seeking the answer to these queries. Unlike her husband, Melanie Trump is not that big a fan of being in the public eye. So much so that she only confides in three people to avoid embarassing leaks.
This tidbit about the First Lady’s shielded personal life was revealed by CNN reporter Kate Bennett who just published a book on the first lady entitled "Free, Melania: The Unauthorized Biography." In a recent interview with New York magazine's The Cut, Bennett shared how Melanie Trump’s secretive nature and small circle makes it difficult to report about her. She also remarked that in the entire White House, it is only Melanie Trump’s tight circle which isn’t prone to leaking news to the press, compared to Donald Trump’s staff.
"There are certainly things that I know about that would have made for really juicy stuff for the book ... but because of those relationships and because her world is so small, and she does that by design, she will know who told me what," Kate Bennett said. "And so, I don't nor can I really in good faith destroy someone's life or friendship or job just because I want to."
But despite all the secrecy, Benett found that Melanie Trump is the "most free person in the Trump world" and “more in the human realm than the realm that we see or associate her with.”
“By which I mean the unsmiling, sunglasses, married to Donald Trump, quiet — it looks like she’s judging, the squinty sort of judgment face. What I found covering her is that she’s less like that than we might think. I want to tell people about that, but not in a way that’s like, “Come on guys, give her a chance!” I’m more like, Let’s think about her this way,” she explained, adding that Melanie Trump is the least publicly-engaged modern first lady.
