Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says that when he was hospitalized due to COVID-19, it was former First Lady Melania Trump who made it a point to check in on him.
The 59-year-old talked about Melania's concern for him during an interview with The View Monday. Christie announced his diagnosis in October last year, after which he revealed that he had checked himself into the hospital as a precaution as he was at higher risk for COVID-19 complications due to underlying health issues like asthma.
Christie shared that Melania "called me every day that I was in the ICU first thing in the morning to see how I was doing and then would call my wife after that to see if she needed anything," and said that her behavior was "a real contrast" from her husband, former President Donald Trump.
During his one-week stay at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey, the then-president also called Christie, but Trump seemed to be less concerned about his friend's health. Christie said that Trump called and after asking how he was feeling, he said, "How do you think you got it?" To which Christie responded by saying that he didn't know how exactly and that there were seven of them in that room, and six of the seven of them got infected. So Christie said that he didn't know how he got it, but he was sure that he got it in that room.
After hearing Christie's reply, Trump apparently asked, "You're not going to blame me, are you?" Then Christie told him that he won't because he didn't know that Trump gave it to him, but what the then-President was most concerned about was that Christie wasn't going to blame him, reported PEOPLE.
During the interview, Christie said that he believed he got infected when he was helping prepare the former President for a debate with Joe Biden, who is now the US President.
In his new book, “Republican Rescue: Saving the Party From Truth Deniers, Conspiracy Theorists, and the Dangerous Policies of Joe Biden” published Tuesday, Christie made similar claims and said that Trump called to make sure he wouldn't be blamed for testing positive for COVID-19, according to an excerpt published by New York Times.
The Trump couple also tested positive for coronavirus in October last year. While Melania suffered from "a lingering cough" due to which she couldn't attend some of her husband's campaign events, Trump was hospitalized with the virus, but later recovered.
