Meghan Markle's Worst Controversy: Is She The Most Hated Duchess?

The Britons love Prince Harry. But, not the same can be said about what they feel about his wife, Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex is controversy’s favorite child, so much so, every other royal pales in comparison to the media attention she garners.

From her former profession as a raunchy Hollywood actress and the “divorcee” tag to being accused of being a con woman and social climber, Meghan has had mammoth brickbats come her way— for everything. That said, what has been Meghan Markle’s worst controversy? Why has the Duchess of Sussex been subjected to such harsh criticism? A volley of netizens conjured up really interesting responses.

While a section of users on Quora believed that her actions reeked of "insincerity" and "lack of authenticity", several others feel the Duchess is yet to get a hang of the royal protocol. Or better yet, is unable to behave like one.

“I am not sure if it was just one thing, more an accumulation of many mistakes, wrongdoings, arrogance…call it what you like,” said Sue Baros, a user. “However, I think it all came to a head with all the nonsense and subterfuge over Archie’s birth, along with her overspending and at the same time it was becoming absolutely apparent that she was very controlling and not authentic, and the realization by so many that she was a potential con woman and Harry had been conned. For me personally, as I have stated before, I think to announce her pregnancy at Eugenie’s wedding set the benchmark for unfortunate behavior, and latterly her complete disrespect for The Queen and the traditions and ways of the British Royal Family,” she added.

For some, Meghan’s alleged mistreatment of her dysfunctional family didn’t go down well with the public. “Then the British public saw someone who didn’t respect the traditions and protocol of the Family she had joined,” Graham Short, a musician writer, and entertainer said. “Generally, the British love their Royal Family. The respect they have, particularly for the Queen, is massive throughout the country. And rightly so. The Monarch hasn’t put a foot wrong. Many people say Meghan Markle is still acting. Her insincerity and her avarice have turned people against her overnight. People are describing her as a kid in a sweet shop. It is clear she can’t believe her luck and grabs at everything she has her eye on - preferably Princess Diana’s jewelry,” he added.

While these arguments can be cited as mere opinions, one of Meghan’s biggest controversies would remain her appalling misdemeanor towards royal staff. Things allegedly got so bad that the Duchess Of Cambridge had to intervene and ask her to not talk to the staff in that fashion.

Meghan Markle’s, currently, on the third nanny, in just a matter of weeks. Not to forget, the Duchess’s personal assistant, Melissa Touabti, quit after six months in the job. She was, reportedly, reduced to tears before she left. Soon after, the private secretary Samantha Cohen mysteriously resigned after 17 years with the Royals. In January this year, Meghan’s female bodyguard put down her papers flat six months after joining.
