Compared to sister-in-law Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle can be considered as a bit more unconventional. That’s why it didn’t come as a surprise to many royal family fans upon learning that the Duchess of Sussex will be breaking some royal birth traditions when it comes to the birth of her first child with Prince Harry.
One royal baby birth tradition that Meghan just can’t stomach is the idea of forcing herself to pretend that she’s fine and post for a postdelivery photo shoot with her firstborn and Prince Harry days after her delivery. Kate Middleton did it, but that does not mean she would.
However, Meghan sympathized with what Kate had to go through. A close friend told the New York Post in an interview that the Duchess of Sussex “felt sorry” for Kate for having to force herself to face the world’s media even as she is still recovering after recently giving birth.
For the duchess, it’s a royal tradition that she would rather break. In fact, Meghan and Prince Harry would rather present their newborn to the world at their own time and only when they are ready to do so.
“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private,” Prince Harry and Meghan already confirmed via a statement. “The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”
Some royal family experts say that Meghan could get away with ditching the photo call because Baby Sussex is farther down the line of succession. However, it’s something that Kate Middleton just can’t afford to forego.
“There were reports that Kate would have preferred a home birth for Louis but felt that the occasion demanded more exposure because of her status,“ royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Insider. “Since the new arrival is seventh in line to the throne, Harry and Meghan have the choice of more privacy and if they choose to exercise it, it would mean returning to previous royal traditions.”
