Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may be the most controversial royals right now because the Duchess came from Hollywood. This is probably why the two themselves are said to be confused as to what they should be - publicly-serving royals or celebrities?
As much as the former "Suits" star wants to fights for her causes alongside her husband, controversies refuse to leave her, making it hard for her to drop her A-list celebrity lifestyle and image. One royal biographer noted the confusion on the kind of lives they want to lead more, whether as private and yet cause-driven royals, or the very public celebrities they could very well be.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Angela Levin shared that she cannot see the Duchess of Sussex, now a mother of 1, just “quietly taking a back seat.” However, she urges the two to determine what they like to be more - celebrity A-listers or public servants?
“While their own relationship seems hunky-dory, the type of royal role they want to pursue appears increasingly confused: dutiful public servants or globe-trotting celebrity A-listers?” she said.
Levin is all praise for how the pair ambitiously and passionately pursue their philanthropic objectives, using their privileged positions to enact positive changes without exploiting their statuses. And yet, this is not enough. Levin thinks it is high time that they decide their future direction.
Most of the controversies hounding the couple just might be because they could not commit to one specific role. If they are clearly public servants, then attacks on their personalities might not happen as frequently as they are happening right now. However, they are still somehow perceived as celebrities whose public image is fair play.
According to a recent report by The Sun, they even had to hire Fiona Mcilwham as the new private secretary to “rescue their reputation.” The secretary is a former diplomat and therefore knows a thing or two about managing reputations. A royal source revealed that Mcilwham “is the safest pair of hands” the royals need right now.
There are even reports claiming Markle could not shed her Hollywood persona when dealing with royal staff. The Duchess is described as having “ripped up the rule book” in managing royal staff, and through her ways, is perceived as having a celebrity or diva persona.
“Meghan can be difficult. She has very high standards and is used to working in a Hollywood environment,” the insider said.
