One of the fastest growing economies in the world, demand for high-end luxury goods in the United Arab Emirates continues to grow insatiably. To establish the brand and to meet growing demands, McLaren builds an all-new dealer network in the Middle East, starting with a showroom in Abu Dhabi. To mark the occasion, as well as to do a little PR, McLaren released a new video of its mighty MP4-12C supercar travelling at speed across the Arabian desert on its way to Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit, the venue for the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
All in all, McLaren's plan for an ambitious network expansion project involves setting up 35 new dealerships in 19 countries around the world by year end. In addition, to offer a unique experience for its customers and to celebrate its decorated history in motor racing, McLaren will feature a display for one of their historic race cars at each of its new dealerships.
Establishing a strong dealer network is essential as McLaren expects itself to achieve 4,000 units sales per year. While that is considerably low volume, the 4,000 sales figure is double the number of cars Lamborghini would sell. What's more, the last vehicle McLaren had sold was the iconic F1 supercar designed by Gordon Murray more than 20 years ago. A long absence from the market won't make things easy for the Woking, England based sports car builder.
In order to spearhead the market, McLaren's product pipeline suggests an onslaught of desirable supercars in the near future, including an open-top version of the MP4-12C as well as a halo vehicle known as the P12, described as the true successor to the original F1. Finally, McLaren will debut a third vehicle in the lineup that will compete against the infallible Porsche 911, the car to beat in the "everyday" supercar segment.
Shot over a period of six days in the deserts of UAE, McLaren boasts that the short film was shot using the latest in RED digital cinema camera technology, offering extremely high definition quality footage that's more appropriate for Hollywood productions.
