Location, location, location. Formula 1, the pinnacle of auto racing, is working to pitch its F1 circus tents in iconic venues around the world to drum up publicity and expand its reach..
Already slated for the 2013 schedule, despite delays, is the Formula One Grand Prix of America circuit at Weehawken, New Jersey, which overlooks the phenomenal backdrop that is the New York City skyline. Seeking opportunities to bring its racing to other destinations that are just as special, F1 president Bernie Ecclestone is not only looking to bring a Grand Prix to the outskirts of London, but to bring the show to the very heart of London itself.
Ecclestone says, "It would be magnificent. A couple of years ago, we came veryc lose to an agreement with the City of Westminster and the Mayer's office but we ran into the small problem of cost."
Designed by the architects of Populous, the track layout is modeled around landmarks including the Admiralty Arch off Trafalgar Square, where the Formula 1 cars will needle through the archs on its way to Buckingham Palace.
Of course, there are many factors that must be addressed before a Grand Prix can successfully be held in London. In fact, odds are, finances and logistics will already prevent an event at London to ever come to fruition.
That said, there's nothing wrong with dreaming. Bringing the project closer to reality, the boys at McLaren Racing and team sponsor Santander Sovereign Bank demonstrated a virtual lap around the unique street circuit.
Check out the video below as World Champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button take you around each corner of the track. Also, be sure to check out the 1 lap on-board simulation below:
