The highly anticipated film “Max,” a family action adventure from written and directed by Boaz Yakin, tells the story about a precision-trained military dog, Max, who serves on the frontlines in Afghanistan with his handler Kyle Wincott. When things go terribly wrong on maneuvers, Kyle is mortally wounded and Max, traumatized by the loss of his best friend, is unable to remain in service. Kyle is survived by his parents, Pamela (Lauren Graham) and Ray (Thomas Haden Church), as well as his rebellious teen brother Justin (Josh Wiggins), who struggle to heal and welcome Max into the family as one of their own.
Graham’s character is “a strong, loving, southern woman,” as she describes her, who is trying to keep whatever’s left of her family together. And Thomas Haden Church’s character is another story; he’s struggling to get close to his son while enduring the pain of losing his eldest. Church’s character Ray, also has to deal with feeling guilty after being the main supporter and encouraging his son Kyle to enlist. We had the chance to sit down and chat with them about their experiences portraying a family in pain, and the struggles parents go through when in so much pain. Check out the full interview below:
