“Max” movie director Boaz Yakin says it had been too long since anyone made a movie about heroic dogs like “Old Yeller” and “Rintintin,” where the relationship with the animals is taken seriously. So, with the help of Sheldon Lettich the two co-wrote a script and brought it to the big screen with an amazing cast including Lauren Graham, Thomas Haden Church, Josh Wiggins, Mia Xitlali and of course, Max the hero dog. The film follows the story of a precision-trained military dog, which serves on the frontlines in Afghanistan alongside his handler, U.S. Marine Kyle Wincott. When things go terribly wrong on maneuvers, Kyle is mortally wounded and Max, traumatized by the loss of his best friend, is unable to remain in service.
Later, Max is adopted by Kyle’s family, who essentially save his life but now, they all face the challenge of adjusting to their new lives. However, with the help of a tough-talking young teen, Carmen, who has a way with dogs, Justin begins to appreciate his canine companion. Latin Times had the chance to talk to both, director Boaz Yakin and actor Josh Wiggins about what attracted them to partake in a movie like this, and how a Latino family came into play.
