Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz has allegedly showed off photos and videos of nude women he claimed to have slept with to lawmakers and boasted about his sexual conquests. This comes after the 38-year old congressman has been under investigation by the Justice Department over sex trafficking allegations during the final months of the Trump administration.
Multiple sources told CNN that Gaetz kept the images of the women on his phone including those while he was on the house floor at the Capitol. While there is no known link between these alleged images and the sex trafficking investigations on Gaetz, prominent Republicans have been mum on the issue.
Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe said there must be a "significant degree of information" for federal officials to have launched a sex trafficking probe into a member of Congress.
McCabe, who was fired by Trump in 2018, described the allegations as "very serious" as New York Times also revealed that Gaetz is under investigation over claims he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl and paid her to travel with him across state lines.
Meanwhile, Gaetz has denied having had any sexual relationships with an underage girl or trafficking any woman across state lines. However, he claims that he is the victim of an extortion plot involving former Justice Department official David McGee. Gaetz said the latter has been trying to extort him and his family of $25million using the sex trafficking probe as leverage.
The Republican Rep. said he and his father - former Florida State Senator Don Gaetz - contacted authorities and have been working with the FBI on a simultaneous investigation. The former Florida Senator is backing up his son's claims saying that he wore a wire to try to expose McGee's plot.
McGee denied the accusation and said he had no involvement in the DOJ sex trafficking probe into Gaetz other than being one of "a thousand people who have heard the rumors" about the congressman's alleged inappropriate relations with underage girls.
But in another explosive twist, Gaetz released text message screenshots, an email and a printout purporting to show the alleged extortion plot. The documents, which were shared with the Washington Examiner, claim to show how the congressman was being extorted by McGee and former Air Force intelligence officer Bob Kent in an attempt to help rescue American hostage Robert Levinson from Iran.
According to the documents, a grand jury had heard testimony from an underage girl who says she was paid to have sex with Gaetz on top of compromising photos of the Congressman having sex with underage prostitutes.
The alleged extorters claimed they could stop the probe if the Gaetz family paid $25million to help secure Levinson's release.
