The massive $416-million Powerball jackpot is still up for grabs after no ticket matched the winning numbers during the Christmas Day drawing held on Saturday, Dec. 25.
The winning Powerball numbers for Saturday, Dec. 25, were 27, 29, 45, 55, 58 and the Powerball was 2. A person has to correctly match all five numbers and the Powerball in order to win the mammoth jackpot. Since nobody won during the Christmas draw, the total will climb from $400 million to at least $416 million for Monday, Dec. 27, night's drawing, 11Alive News reported.
After the Dec. 25th draw, there were reported to be a handful of $1-million prize winners in California, South Carolina, and Tennessee who correctly matched all five numbers but missed the Powerball digit 2. If someone matches all six numbers on Monday's drawing and chooses to take home a one-time lump sum payout, they would walk away with almost $300 million.
A single ticket reportedly won the massive $700 million grand prize on Oct. 4 earlier this year. This jackpot was the seventh-largest in U.S. lottery history and fifth largest in Powerball history. However, since then, nobody has won the Powerball in 34 consecutive drawings, ABC7NY reported.
With the $416-million Powerball jackpot up for grabs on late Monday, ticket buyers are hopeful that Lucky Rudy's in Rosenberg would work its magic for them. Lucky Rudy's in Rosenberg is considered one of the luckiest places in Houston for lottery buyers.
Dozens of players come to Lucky Rudy's every day to test their luck playing the lottery, some even coming to the store from neighboring Louisiana and other states.
"It's the number one store in Texas," customer Dustin McConnell said. “I’ve been coming here since I was 18. It’s a great store to play.”
Powerball draws, which previously were only held on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, recently added a Monday drawing to its weekly lineup. Powerball proclaimed that the schedule change would lead to "larger, faster-growing jackpots," KHOU reported.
Powerball draws are now held thrice a week, on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot, which is played in about 44 states, is about 1 in 292 million.
