Officials have charged a 13-year-old student after they were found with a loaded gun in their lunchbox at a Maryland middle school.
School administrators at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School were notified about a student possibly having a loaded weapon at about 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
The school resource officer (SRO) was able to locate the student and discovered that they had brought a loaded gun in their lunchbox.
Authorities said no threats had been made. How the 13-year-old was able to get the gun and why they brought it to school is still under investigation by the SRO.
The student was charged as a juvenile with bringing a loaded weapon on school grounds. Officials said that they will also be facing disciplinary actions at school.
