A range of games from Activision and Capcom using Marvel properties have been pulled from digital shelves following the apparent expiration of licensing contracts. You will notice a lack of Marvel titles on Steam, Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network libraries. The message was originally posted to Facebook which offered a major sale with up to 90 percent off digital Marvel titles before the new year, seeing how they would no longer be available once the ball dropped. With both Activision and Capcom pulling titles it seems that Marvel may be re-evaluating game distribution and licensing all around.
Since the original announcement the news has now been confirmed by Activision's community manager Dan Amrich on Twitter that games based on Deadpool, X-Men and Spider-Man have all been pulled. Amrich tweeted, “For those asking about it: Marvel Activision titles are no longer available for digital download.” From there the questions and comments came flooding in. When asked if other titles would be affected Amrich tweeted, “@Rorru Yes. Capcom also pulled the MvC games, so it's not just Activision. Time for Marvel to consolidate, I guess!”
Some of these pulled titles have barely been out a year such as “Deadpool.” The title only launched six months ago, the action title from High Moon Studios really hasn't been available that long. IGN reports that retail copies of the game are still available at the moment, though it's unclear whether this will only be the case until the current run of stock is gone so if you have not picked up your copy make your way to a GameStop, Target, Walmart or Amazon to grab your copy before it’s gone.
