A Studio City family is devastated after the theft of their car. The minivan was not as important to the Mateo family as the precious cargo it carried inside. The family's 10-year-old yellow Labrador was peacefully sleeping in the back seat when the car was taken.
The Mateo family left their elderly dog in the car with the air conditioner running while they stopped to run a quick errand. The family was no more than 20-feet from the car when it was taken. Husband and father Nayo Mateo had stepped out of his car to get his wife and two-year-old daughter who were still shopping inside of a store.
When Mateo left the vehicle a thief quickly jumped into the front seat. It is unlikely the criminal knew the family dog was inside the car. The car was stolen on Saturday and the Mateo family is asking for the public's help to get Maru back.
After the car and Maru were stolen Nayo Mateo ran into a nearby pet store hoping a security camera caught the theft. The car is a dark blue Honda Odyssey, license plate number 6FLL546. Mutt Match L.A is offering a $1,500 reward for Maru's safe return. Maru was wearing a collar and is micro-chipped. Anyone with information about her is urged to call Mutt Match (323-836-2980).
