Oh oh! New Miss Universe 2013 María Gabriela Isler might be in trouble! The Venezuelan beauty has caused controversy less than a week after being crowned as the most beautiful woman of the universe, with an old tweet targeting former president Hugo Chávez. On June 13, 2011 the model had arrived home after a long day of work and found herself in an uncomfortable situation: the power was out. Although power outages are very common in Latin American countries, this time around, Isler had had enough, and went on to rant on Twitter, like many of us do whenever there’s something bothering us.

She wrote on her now-protected Twitter account @Molly_Isler the following message: "Llegar a tu casa cansada, acalorada, con ganas de bañarte, descansar, etc... Y que no haya luz! El grandísimo c****** de tu m**** Chavez!" which translated means “Arriving home tired, sweaty, wanting to take a shower, rest, etc... And there’s no power!” She later went on to insult the now deceased president Hugo Chávez, who ruled the country back then. The old message resurfaced right after the current president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, had congratulated her via the social media.

“Congratulations to María Gabriela Isler for her triumph, that is also Venezuela’s triumph. May God bless her always!” Maduro wrote in Spanish. However, Maduro’s tweet also sparked major backlash, with groups calling out the new Miss Universe, saying that she was a “chavista” and was pro Nicolás Maduro. But not only that, after her old tweet was brought back to the spotlight, many have gathered to say that this was an effort to bring Isler down and that it was all staged. Nevertheless, staged or not, María Gabriela is in the middle of a political scandal thanks to an old tweet as an attempt to vent her frustration with her country’s situation.

So far she has not commented on the matter and has stuck to her Miss Universe schedule. "I have a lot of emotions. I can't describe all the things that I feel at this moment because I'm shaking," she said after being named the winner. "I'm still in shock. I feel so blessed, so happy to be here." María Gabriela beat 85 other girls to the crown, leaving Patricia Yurena Rodríguez, Miss Spain, as the first runner up and Constanza Báez, Miss Ecuador, as the second runner up.
