Marc Anthony is the face of Billboard's latest issue called "The 2016 Latin Issue." Although the Puerto Rican singer is known for his back-to-back salsa hits, the magazine focused their article on Anthony's entertainment company Magnus Media that launched in 2015. Not only does the "Vivir Mi Vida" singer open up about building his new empire, but he also talks politics and why he'll be voting for Hillary Clinton these elections.
“I’ve always said the concept of Magnus was born out of f---ing frustration. Some of the biggest influencers on the planet are Latino artists and athletes,” said Anthony to Billboard. "I’m really interested in seeing how this pans out. If it works, we’ll be miles ahead of a lot of people." As of now, the company has signed sponsorship and co-management deals with many talents such as Alejandro Sanz, Gente De Zona and Chino & Nacho. Just eight months after launching the company, Anthony announced Magnus Sports, which boasts over 60 baseball players, headlined by Aroldis Chapman and Jorge Soler.
“One hundred percent of the Fortune 500 companies, they have no idea how to speak to the 610 million Latinos,” he emphasized on why the company is best for Latinos. “There just isn’t a silver bullet that’s going to speak the language of all those people, with their idiosyncratic food, dialects, cultures. Me and my artists understand those distinctions. We’ve been speaking to these different audiences all of our lives.”
Magnus Media has its headquarters in Miami ---the capital of Latin America, according to Marc. "It’s the epicenter. It’s one of the biggest markets for what I do. So many of my artists and friends all pass through Miami. Probably 90 more times than they do in New York or L.A. So I stacked all my chips here," he said.
In the midst of talking about his company, which will soon sign YouTube sensation Matt Hunter of Colombian descent, Anthony opened up about politics. "The Republican Party right now, they’re just showing what they’ve always been,” he said of GOP candidates such as Donald Trump. “I had to step up and say, ‘I’m not putting up with this shit.’ I have a new four-letter word, and it’s ‘vote.’ Because that’s when they’re going to see our power," he said, stating that he will vote for Hillary as the next president of the United States. “I have a lot of respect for Bernie Sanders, his ideas, how he has run his campaign. But I’ll be voting for Hillary Clinton. We’ve been friends for 20 years," he noted of the Democratic candidate.
Staying on the topic, the 47-year-old award-winning artist also talked about President Obama's recent historic trip to Cuba. “I’m proud that President Obama had the balls to move the needle on that. Times are changing," he states. "I mean, Cuba, the place where my music was born, and I’ve never stepped foot in it. It has always been a dream of mine.”
