Saturday was a sad day for those who were cheering undefeated (until then) boxer Canelo Alvarez, a Mexican pride and joy. He received his first career defeat from his anticipated match against the reigning champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. It was practically a no contest as Alvarez gave up nearly every round to the veteran fighter, whose slick moves and immense power proved too much for the young contender. Mayweather won the match improving his record to 45-0, leaving Alvarez at 42-1-1 in matches and leaving his own perfect record unscathed.

Of course, social media was the platform for every joke, tease and comparison of Saturday's big event, but it was a Mexican politician's tweet that had the Internet exploding. "Floyd Mayweather's victory over Canelo was easier than f*cking a drunk girl," wrote Manuel Clouthier Carrillo on his Twitter profile. Right after, the politician received all sorts of comments, from people laughing at his comment to others feeling offended by it. Clouthier Carrillo allegedly went fishing after posting the tweet, and didn't check his messages until he was back home, where he realized the mixed reaction he was getting.

"I'm just getting home from a fishing trip and see the craziness my tweet has caused. I apologize to everyone who might have been offended by it," he replied after the commotion his first post caused. The politician later added that he just wanted to illustrate the fight with a saying very typical from his home state Sinaloa, and he understands why people might have misunderstood that. He went on apologizing with another saying, "Al mejor cocinero se le queman las habas," meaning that nobody's perfect. The phrase literally means "Even the best cook burns the beans."

Manuel Clouthier Carrillo is a Mexican politician and entrepreneur. He was a member of PAN, or National Action Party until 1990, after members of that political party betrayed his dad and Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, from the PRD (Party of the Democratic Revolution). He assured the party had lost all his ideological essence and principles because it allied with the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party) to claim the presidential chair in 2000. This move was considered a conspiracy theory. Nowadays he is a nonpartisan politician.
