If you ever watched "Keeping Up with the Kardashians," you probably remember the episode when Kourtney Kardashian discovered ex-boyfriend Scott Disick wearing makeup. Even though this has nothing to do with the Kardashian-Jenner family, this story is related to the fact that more and more men are wearing makeup nowadays.
Two months ago, makeup brand Covergirl announced its first time ever Coverboy. A 17-year-old New York-based makeup artist named James Charles.
“I am so beyond excited and overwhelmed and happy and astonished and of course, SHOOK, to announce that I am the newest face of @covergirl,” James wrote on Instagram at the time. “First ever male ambassador for the brand and I am so honored and excited to be working with such an iconic brand.”
Of course, it was and it is the topic of the moment. Males are taking a big chunk of recognition in the beauty industry, because they really look great and they know what they are doing.
Maybelline New York is now doing their part! They just released the Big Shot Mascara campaign, and the best part of this, is not the fact the cosmetics line chose a man to be a spokesperson. They selected a Latino!
On Instagram they posted a video that reads: “Start the new year off like a boss. Secret project revealed! Watch @mannymua733 + @makeupshayla star in the new #bigshotmascara campaign. No one in this campaign is wearing ANY fake lashes or inserts, just #bigshotmascara! Available now in the US. When should we drop part II?
A few hours later they dropped part II with the caption: “ We knew you couldn't wait! That Boss Life part II starring #bigshotmascara, @makeupshayla, @mannymua733 and #mnysweepstakes winner, @jflowers1533 is here! Make sure you share your boss looks with us using #bigshotmascara and stay tuned for more this 2017 as we will continue to do big things with @makeupshayla, @mannymua733 and YOU. Now, let's get bossed up”
That’s when we find out that part of the secret project was Manny Gutierrez, a Mexican-Spanish, beauty vlogger and Instagram sensation. With more than 2.9 million followers, Gutierrez is now getting the recognition he deserves.
He posted on IG how excited he was to be part of the campaign: “2017 you are off to an AMAZING START OMG! So excited to finally announce that I am part of the @maybelline #bigshotmascara campaign! Honestly I couldn't be more honored thrilled! Thank you to Maybelline for taking a chance on me! I look forward to working together so much more #Maybellinepartner #IworkedwithMaybellineOMG #pinchme #notthathardthough”
Things are getting very interesting, and from now on, we can predict a new avalanche of male makeup artist and makeup enthusiasts taking over an industry that was exclusively for females.
Congratulations Manny!
