The 2013-2014 season in the competitive Barclays Premier League certainly won’t be one to remember at Old Trafford and because the club continues to struggle on multiple levels, the future of first-year boss David Moyes remains in serious doubt. Moyes has been rumored to be on the way out in recent weeks but with the second leg in the UCL Round of 16 against Olympiakos still on the schedule, the Glazer family seem content in allowing the former Everton boss to attempt to right the ship in the most efficient manner.
Of course the inability to rebound in the Champions League following a 2-0 opening leg loss to their Greek opponents could bring an end to a disappointing United career for David Moyes and if that does in fact happen, Fox Sports indicates that a dream pairing of Louis van Gaal and Frank de Boer could be explored by Manchester United higher-ups. Van Gaal currently serves as the head coach of the Netherlands National soccer team, a squad he took over in 2012 following a two-year spell with German Bundesliga power Bayern Munich.
While Van Gaal remains linked to Manchester United – along with Premier League affiliate Tottenham – former Netherlands assistant coach and current Ajax leader Frank de Boer is also garnering his fair share of attention. Old Trafford execs will undoubtedly be targeting proven winners should they part ways with Moyes and de Boer has certainly enjoyed high levels of success in recent time. Claiming three consecutive titles in the Netherlands Eredivisie League with Ajax, the 43-year-old boss would surely bring vast championship experience to a franchise with numerous decorations of their own.
Ajax is once again at the top of the Eredivisie while Manchester United currently sits seventh in the Premier League with 45 points through 27 matches. The Red Devils are also 12 points behind fourth place Manchester City, a significant position considering the top 4 teams in the BPL will qualify for the 2014-2015 UEFA Champions League.
